Matthew/ guitar, voice, harmonica, pedal steel, songs Matthew Milia was born around dusktime on November 6th, 1985 to a mother of Greek descent and a father whose family derives from the North Country of New York State--specifically, the town of Ogdensburg on the St. Lawrence Seaway. An only child through his entire life, he has been accompanied by two dogs so far, Toby and Teemu, and has attempted to ride both as horses. Both have since passed. Matthew believes that homes and spaces of any form, fashion, or blurry definition are containers of memory and deserving of mythology. He has had the same home for his entire life, between the inland lakes of Michigan, and like the lakes, as a container, it is brimming to say the least. He once had relatives in every directional outskirt from this base--an aunt in a split-level boulevard home out by the summer ski-lift hills, a grandparent couple in the matchbook lawns cut by sidewalks and garbage disposal alleys of Detroit, an uncle in the swamps of the most distant neighborhood in the kingdom. They've all somewhat, somehow, blown away. Matthew writes songs and plays his father's enormous brown guitar, is obsessed with the way the the land gets the further North it crawls (taking people with it), and is dying for love in every pathetic way that it can be transacted. He misses the past horribly but doesn't even remember it. back |
