Simply stunning! This piece comes anonymously from Traverse City, Michigan--that north-stretching-beacon-town cupping a grand mouth and smelling of the black Leelanau forests where The Bleached Canal is hidden--the talking dunes, the resort and spa, the frozen little closed-down ski-mound-chairlift that was across the street from the uphill neighborhood my uncle used to live in, the hot pupils of Manitou in the gusty watery eyes. And what could it mean that they once were so green, and now they are just blank holes in a head? Extra points for that decision--to make this drawing eyeless. Extra points also for the other nuanced mythological Orion allusions--the crucifixion-three-large-hills and other things that make me so baffled--who made this beautiful thing!?
